    Transport Canada Rules

    Basics to understand

    • As of June 2019, Transport Canada dramatically revamped their regulations in regards to where, when, who and which make and model of drone you can fly in any area throughout Canada.
    • The new regulations state that any drone over 250 grams must have their drone registered with Transport Canada, and the user/pilot must either hold a basic or advanced License. A basic license is very limiting, unless you operate over 3 miles away from any restricted airspace.

    •  Advanced level pilots can fly almost anywhere, if they follow the proper regulations. The advanced pilot needs to get prior permission from NAV Canada for flight authorization to fly within a controlled/restricted air space, which is usually granted within 24 hours.

    Where to fly Drones:

The National Research Council has created an interactive map. The map helps drone operators understand airspace and find out where to fly. It is for your convenience only.
